Ospreys Class is a Sixth Form Class which has 3 Special Support Assistants

Ospreys is a class of 10 students aged 16-19. The students take part in wide range of activities during the week, including shopping on Mondays, then preparing and cooking their own lunch on a Tuesday.  On Thursdays some students go to Chichester College, where they have learning opportunities in design and technology and drama.  As well as enabling the students to have new experiences and learn new skills, this opportunity can facilitate a growth in confidence and a greater awareness of what is available and what they might like to do when they leave our school. A number of students go on to take courses at Chichester College.

Students also have the opportunity to take part in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. This is based in four sections – Physical, Volunteering, Skills and Expedition. The activities include kayaking, cooking, drama and volunteering for the National Trust. Again taking part in this helps to widen the students experience, gain life skills and build self-confidence.

All students in the sixth form take part in our Friday afternoon leisure programme. Examples of the activities offered at different times of the year are swimming, trampolining, bowling, team games,  golf, dance, sensory music and archery. Classes also arrange their own trips out to places such as theatre, restaurants, and the cinema in Chichester.

Students in Ospreys class have a busy and varied time this also includes class-based learning as well! All students in the sixth form work on their literacy and numeracy skills, with a focus on time and money, important skills for independence in adult life. Our sixth form curriculum also includes modules on You, Me and Us, Special Days/Events, Tomorrows World, Fame, 5 a-day and Community Links, all designed to develop  greater levels of independence.

Ospreys Class are a very smiley and enthusiastic team. All of the students enjoy being part of their class, and help each other to celebrate their successes and special moments as well as supporting each other to overcome the challenges that form part of life at school and in the community.
